Looking for more responsible self-adhesive solutions?

Consumers are becoming more environmentally aware, and they want eco-responsible products, including their packaging and the materials used for Point Of Sales and signage. Self-adhesive products are no exception. As a result, companies have to transition towards sustainable alternatives to traditional adhesive materials.

Alternatives to PVC for Visual Communication in retail spaces

Let’s take PVC, for instance: it’s one of the most versatile, adaptable, and easy-to-alter materials, perfect for multiple needs. That’s why PVC has been a material of choice for decades in most industries. However, PVC is far from sustainable, generating a ton of pollution-related issues.

Good news: we found sustainable alternatives to PVC for many uses. We now use honeycomb, wood pulp, and fibre-based materials for signage and displays in retail spaces. They work well without involving heavy carbon emissions or causing end-of-life management problems. Let’s get back to self-adhesives!

What is a self-adhesive material?
It has an adhesive coating on one side, allowing it to stick to surfaces without additional adhesives. It has three key components:

  • Face stock or base film: the visible part that can be printed
  • Adhesive: the layer that makes the material stick to surfaces
  • Release liner: the backing that protects the adhesive until ready to be applied

PVC and other plastics (PP, PE, PET) are the most common materials to produce the face stock and the release liner.

Self-adhesives: slimming down their environmental imprint

The market of self-adhesive products is growing fast and inducing challenges around sustainability.
But what if we tell you we also did it for self-adhesives? F-Jet Natural Fibers is the latest innovation for a more sustainable alternative.

Stick to F-Jet Natural Fibers

Entirely made from post-consumer recycled paper, F-Jet Natural Fibers is an ideal alternative for indoor advertising media like interior signage, window decoration, and point-of-sale advertising. Let’s see if it meets the top required criteria for self-adhesive stickers.

Criterion #1: duration and ease to apply and remove

The first criterion for a self-adhesive sticker is to adhere for a long enough time for a specific application and on different types of surfaces. Is it meant to stay for a month or a couple of weeks for a temporary campaign?

Thanks to its ultra-removable acrylic adhesive, F-Jet Natural Fibers ensures easy application and clean removal from several surfaces such as glass, aluminium, and cardboard.

It can last 3 to 4 weeks, making it ideal for updating promotional materials and indoor advertising campaigns.

Criterion #2: printing quality

Another criterion of a performant self-adhesive sticker is the printing quality and rendering, especially for large-format displays.

F-Jet Natural Fibers is adapted to vinyl printing techniques and offers the same printing results. It is also compatible with latex and UV inks, which means it can replace traditional PVC products while guaranteeing high-quality printed visuals with vibrant colours.

We have to mention that F-Jet Natural Fibers also has its limits. It only works for indoor applications, on flat surfaces, and for short periods. But all in all, it is a performant alternative to PVC self-adhesives, regarding its eco-responsibility.

One more step to change habits

Thanks to their versatility, self-adhesive products are popular in the visual communication industry.  At Antalis, most of our customers use them daily, for indoor or outdoor applications, short or long-term, on flat surfaces or 3-dimensional objects.

We want to satisfy this demand while ensuring a reduced footprint with alternative materials to PVC. Fortunately, PP, PE, paper-based and fibre-based adhesives keep springing. In addition, water-based adhesives now offer excellent adhesion properties. Another path to sustainability is to improve the products’ recyclability from the design phase to effective recycling systems.

To help you choose the best alternative to your current signage materials, we have created the SwitchGreen Box. It is a selection of the best alternatives to PVC for your key applications, including panels, textiles, and adhesives. Open the box and find the material that suits your needs. We will update the SwitchGreen Box with the latest updates and product innovations.
