Packaging process

When we talk about optimising orders, this can involve a number of things, from saving time or costs, to considering the environment and providing an improved unboxing experience - all of the things we took into account while collaborating with Flinders Design on a tailored and on-demand packaging line.

When we talk about optimising orders, this can involve a number of things, from saving time or costs, to considering the environment and providing an improved unboxing experience - all of the things we took into account while collaborating with Flinders Design on a tailored and on-demand packaging line.

The client's challenge

Flinders is a major player in the home & living industry. Due to the exclusive and luxurious nature of their products, they required a superior unpacking experience, and yet their process was time-consuming and resulted in an inconsistent appearance on delivery. At the time, they were using different sized boxes, which the team had to choose themselves, before filling and sealing by hand...

The Antalis solution

Antalis’ Smart Consult, Smart Tech Design and Smart Logistic specialists teams looked at the supply chain as a whole to look for ways of improvement.

After extensive discussions about Flinders’ requirements, they implemented a complete tailored packaging line in the warehouse, so that all manageable products could be prepared for shipment in a single line (rather like how high-quality catering services work in Michelin-starred kitchens).

  • Step 1: The line starts as the order is picked.

  • Step 2: Then a SICK scanner is used to measure the dimensions of the product.

Scanning dimensions

  • Step 3: Using this data, the Packsize machine cuts the boxes to size out of endless corrugated cardboard with stylish white printing, then the operator only has to pack the product.

  • Step 4: Finally, a Mosca strapping machine straps the box, ready for dispatch.

Our team input

— Joost Nijenhuis, Senior Account Manager - Antalis Packaging

We believe that packaging is not just about the packaging product but about the entire packaging process. We look at the process, from handling in the warehouse, through the entire logistics chain, to the customer’s experience upon receipt.

Our client point of view

— Timo Nieuwolt, Director Operations - Flinders

Our goal was a better unboxing experience for our customers, while both saving time in our warehouse and considering the environment.
