The client’s challenge

One of UK’s leading home-delivery companies for medical supplies wanted to overhaul its service for customers with spinal injuries. It recognised that the customer experience for injured patients needed improvement. Following an immersion phase to gain an in-depth understanding of patients’ daily lives, the client’s service and the associated customer journey, our Antalis expert identified several issues that helped shape the innovative redesign:

  • How will the customer get the box into their house?
  • How can the box become easy to open for those with limited dexterity?
  • How can accessing products at the bottom of the box be made easier?
  • How can manuals be presented more effectively?
  • How can waste be disposed of more easily?

Antalis’s thoughtful and ergonomically-designed solution

After multiple concept developments, testing phases and refinements, our team at The Smart Packaging Centre worked with the client to create a bespoke cardboard box.

Easy to lift, the new design can be opened on the ground, on a table, or even on the person’s lap. It features clear opening instructions, printed directly onto the packaging.

The power of well-designed packaging

Antalis’s packaging technologists devised a bespoke box that not only looks good, but also considers ease of opening, and health and safety issues. Rigorous testing confirmed that the solution significantly improved manoeuvrability and accessibility for customers and end users, effectively addressing all major user challenges. A very satisfying outcome for our Antalis experts.

This was an interesting project that really challenged us to think differently about packaging and how it is used by the end user.
