Discover how bagging systems can elevate your packaging operations. Meet the clever machines that scan, pack, seal and print labels in one go.

Packaging has become a strategic advantage. If you’re struggling to scale during peak seasons or you’re dealing with manual labelling errors, a bagging system can help you meet customer expectations for speed, flexibility and brand image.

What is a bagging system?

At its core, a bagging system is an automated or semi-automated solution that packages products directly into bags. Imagine a machine that not only bags your items but also prints shipping labels directly onto the bag, eliminating the need for a separate labelling step. Moreover, one operator using an automated bagging machine, such as the Pregis Sharp line, can match the output of 4 manual packers.

Using the right type of bag

For optimal performance, Pregis Sharp™ Bagging Machines can be used with paper or poly bags – the last one being flexible bags that protect, contain and label products during storage, shipping and retail display. Sharp™ systems use bags supplied on rolls or fanfolded in a box, that are automatically opened, filled, sealed and labelled in one seamless process.

But not all bags are the same. Choosing the right type is essential to ensuring efficiency, product protection and machine compatibility. Here’s what to check when choosing your bags:

  • Size: 5 to 60cm wide, 10 to 91cm long (SX, Max 12, MaxPro 18/24).

  • Thickness: 25–100 microns, from light items to sharp/heavy ones.
  • Colour: Clear for visibility, opaque/tinted for privacy (e-commerce).
  • Printing options: Blank, custom or thermal-transfer for adding branding, barcodes or instructions.
  • Special features: Hang/vent holes, perforations, zippers for retail display, breathable packaging, easy opening or resealable.
  • Sustainability: Recyclable, up to 30% recycled content.
  • Product type: Apparel, electronics, medical, hardware, footwear - with bag strength and features chosen according to product sensitivity and weight.
  • Machine Compatibility: SX to 5 to 28 cm, Max 12 up to 30 cm, MaxPro 18 up to 45 cm, MaxPro 24 up to 60 cm
