When considering papers suitable for printing stationery as part of a school rebranding, multidisciplinary design studio Capiche Design found the perfect choice in Olin.
Founded in 1999 by Gabriel Walsh, Capiche Design creates branding, print, packaging and environmental experiences for clients across a variety of sectors.
For Linn Dara Schools, they were tasked with creating a new identity that would reflect the schools' essence and illustrate the possibility for knowledge, change, empowerment and inclusion.
Linn Dara Schools are designated as a Department of Education (Government of Ireland), special school for children and adolescents who are experiencing enduring mental health difficulties.
The schools' vision is “to be a centre of excellence which offers high quality holistic educational experiences and support for all its young people in a caring environment which promotes individual achievement not only in academic areas but also in their personal development.
It places the well-being of its students at the core of daily life, encouraging students to acknowledge their talents, potential and goals”.
It was with this vision in mind that Capiche Design set about creating new branding that would truly reflect the schools' ethos and mission.
The new identity needed to reflect the truly transformational effect that teaching in this manner and environment can have on students.
The values of the schools were distilled down into two core elements - a book and a rainbow. These elements combine to form the graphic icons that are the key to the identity.
The book represents “the learning that we strive to provide for our pupils so that they may continue to learn and develop throughout their lives”, while the rainbow illustrates the joy in learning and the curiosity of the students and their approach to education and life.
The colours used in the rainbow represent the wide spectrum of students that the schools cater for, while also reflecting the stimulating teaching methods and inspiring environment for learning.
In developing the stationery set – comprising letterheads, compliments slips and business cards – that would be primarily used by the teaching staff of the schools when contacting parents of the students, it was important that the vibrancy of the identity would shine through, and for this the studio decided that a premium uncoated paper would provide the result desired.
Olin Regular was the stock specified for printing the Linn Dara Schools stationery. With the large range of weights available within the Olin range, it was a perfect choice for stationery while also allowing huge scope for the future stock requirements that the schools will have.
