Every three years, the global wine industry gathers in Cape Town for Cape Wine, the flagship showcase of South African wine. The 2025 edition, held in September, has already been hailed as the best to date — and this year, with the help of Xanita board, sustainability took centre stage.

Behind the beautifully presented displays was a remarkable story of innovation and environmental responsibility. The entire exhibition build was delivered using Xanita engineered fibreboard, a lightweight, high-strength, and fully re-pulpable board stocked in the UK by Antalis.

More than 5,000 Xanita panels were used to construct hundreds of stands across two exhibition halls, creating an inspiring, world-class environment that combined efficiency, design excellence, and a lighter environmental footprint. The modular structures were produced, installed, and dismantled in record time with the entire setup flat-packed overnight once the show closed.  Stands were either re-used, re-packaged, or recycled, instead of ending up in a landfill, ensuring the impact was as light on the environment as possible.

“Xanita continues to prove that sustainable materials can deliver both creativity and performance at scale,” said Chris Green, Visual Communication Director at Antalis. “Events like Cape Wine 2025 show what’s possible when design, innovation, and environmental responsibility come together.”

Xanita board is a 100% re-pulpable engineered, closed-cell fibreboard manufactured with a part recycled corrugated kraft core sandwiched between printable white Kraft liners. Xanita provides an alternative to traditional substrates such as MDF or chipboard. Its strength, lightness, and recyclability make it ideal for exhibition builds, retail environments, where both impact and sustainability are priorities.

“As global conversations around environmental accountability continue to evolve, Cape Wine 2025 stands as a powerful example of how events can reduce waste and carbon impact without compromising on quality. For Antalis, the success of this project highlights the growing role of sustainable materials like Xanita in shaping the future of exhibition and display design”, adds Chris Green.
